Hawkeyes Conclude 2 Rounds at Moraine Intercollegiate

MORAINE, Ohio – The University of Iowa men’s golf team sits in fifth place after the first two rounds of the Moraine Intercollegiate at Moraine Country Club. Senior Gage Messingham and redshirt freshman Grant Gudgel led the Hawkeyes, both tied for fourth individually.

Messingham opened with a four-under-par 67, highlighted by six birdies, and followed with a two-under 69 in the second round, shooting par or better on 17 of 18 holes.

Gudgel carded a one-under 70 in round one before posting a five-under 66 in round two. His second round featured six birdies and par or better on 17 of 18 holes to jump 20 spots on the leaderboard.

Sophomore Chance Rinkol also finished under par for the day, sitting at one-under overall. Rinkol shot two-under 69 in the first round, including three front-nine birdies, followed by a one-over 72 in the second round, placing him 32nd individually.

Freshman Bennett Warren rebounded from a five-over 76 in the opening round to shoot five-under 66 in the second round, tying for the team’s best round of the day and jumping 29 spots to sit in 37th.

Junior Max Tjoa rounded out team play for the Hawkeyes, shooting seven-over 78 in the first round before bouncing back to an even-par 71 in the second round.
