Hawkeyes Bounce Bulldogs

The nationally ranked University of Iowa women's basketball team defeated Drake, 100-58, inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday evening.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The nationally ranked University of Iowa women's basketball team defeated Drake, 100-58, inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday evening.  

The Hawkeyes came out firing in the first quarter, ending with a 25-9 advantage over the Bulldogs. After a tough contested three to give Drake the early lead, the Hawkeyes responded with a 17-0 run to close out the quarter, keeping the Bulldogs scoreless for the last seven minutes. Iowa was able to force eight opponent turnovers, collecting 15 points from these pressures. 

Sophomore Taylor Stremlow started the second quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers for Iowa. Drake fought back, going on a 10-5 run to cut the lead to 14 and forcing an Iowa timeout. Iowa responded out of the timeout with a layup from senior Hannah Stuelke to revive the Hawkeyes scoring. Iowa's bench scored 16 of the 20 points in the quarter, setting up for a strong, 45-25 lead at half.  

Iowa came out of halftime with 13 straight points to Drake’s one in the first three minutes of the third quarter. The Hawkeyes shot 63.2 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from three. Six different Hawkeyes contributed to Iowa’s scoring, led by sophomore Ava Heiden with six points. Iowa ended the third quarter up, 74-38.  

Sophomore Chit-Chat Wright started the fourth quarter for the Hawkeyes with her fourth three-point basket of the day propelling an 11-3 run in the first three minutes. 10 different Hawkeyes scored in the final 10 minutes, as Iowa finished out a strong performance, 100-58. 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES 
- Ava Heiden registered 14 points (7-9 FG), six rebounds and two blocks.  
- Heiden has reached double figures in three consecutive games.  
- Chit-Chat Wright netted a career-high four 3-pointers, four steals, and three assists.  
- Wright reached double figures for the second time in her career as a Hawkeye. (14) 
- Hannah Stuelke registered 11 points, eight rebounds, and a season-high five assists.  
- It was her 64th career game in double digits, the most among any active Hawkeye. 
- Emely Rodriguez notched double figures for the fifth time in her last six games dating back to last season.  
- Rodriguez finished with 11 points on five field goals.  
- Taylor Stremlow tied her career-high 10 points and dished out two assists.  
- Stremlow has scored 10+ points twice in her career.  
- Layla Hays netted double figures for the second game in a row.  
- Hays collected her first double-double. (14 points and 10 rebounds) 
- Taylor McCabe notched six points, five assists, five rebounds, and a steal. 
  
TEAM NOTES 
- It was the largest margin of victory for Iowa against Drake since 1992-93. (46) 
- Iowa extended its home sell out streak to 39 games which is the longest active streak nationally.  
- Iowa has won 13 consecutive home non-conference games.  
- The Hawkeyes are 19-1 in home against non-conference opponents since Dec. 7, 2022. 
- The Hawkeyes have won eight straight against Drake and 22 out of the last 23 in the series. 
- Iowa has won a program-best 11 in a row against the Bulldogs in Iowa City.  
- The Hawkeyes have started 3-0 for the sixth consecutive season.  
- Iowa is 99-6 when recording 80+ points and 20+ assists in a game since 2018-19. 
- The Hawkeyes are 14-1 when scoring 80+ points in the Jan Jensen era. 
- Iowa has won all three games this season by 30+ points. 
- It was Iowa’s 39th time scoring 100+ points in program history. 
- The Hawkeyes eclipsed 30+ assists for the 14th time in program history since 2009 and for the second time this season.
