IOWA CITY, Iowa – Five University of Iowa field hockey student-athletes have been named National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-West Region selections, it was announced Wednesday by the NFHCA.
Junior Dionne van Aalsum and graduate student Fréderique van Cleef was named a first-team selection, while seniors Mia Magnotta and Milly Short and freshman Jordan Byers earned second-team honors.
Van Aalsum was a first team selection for the third straight season. The Castricum, Netherlands, native played in every game and led the nation with 28 goals and also added two assists.
Van Cleef earned first-team honors after finishing second on the team in both goals and assists. The Asten, Netherlands, native played in every game, tallying 12 goals and five assists.
Magnotta started all 20 games, where she made 97 saves and had four shutouts. She had an 1.58 goals against average.
Short was named to the second team after logging a team-high 861 minutes in the midfield. The Worcester, England, native started every game and recorded five goals and one assist.
Byers was named to the second team after anchoring the midfield all season for the Hawkeyes. The Landisburg, Pennsylvania, native played in every game and registered three assists.
