IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore Joey Cruz has been awarded an at-large berth to the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia. The NCAA announced the 330-person tournament field Tuesday.
Cruz is one of four 125-pound wrestlers to earn an at-large berth. His selection means Iowa will send a 9-man roster to the national tournament. The Hawkeyes have sent at least nine wrestlers for 13 straight years and 17 times since 2007, Tom Brands’ first year as head coach.
This will be Cruz’ first appearance at the NCAA Championships. He is 16-12 this season with three wins against automatic qualifiers. Cruz finished in 10th one spot below automatic qualifier placement at the Big Ten Championships, which was Iowa’s national qualifier.
Brackets and seeding for the 2025 NCAA Championships will be revealed during a selection show on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. (CT) on NCAA.com.
The 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship are March 20-22 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A complete list of qualifiers is available at NCAA.com.
