IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Bennett Stirtz has been named National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) first-team All-Central District selection, it was announced Tuesday by the NABC.
The Liberty, Missouri, native was also tabbed as a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the league media and a second-team honoree by the coaches. He also was named a second-team All-Big Ten honoree by The Associated Press.
Stirtz currently ranks fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 20 points to go along with 4.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He has a .492/.376/.845 shooting clip with 18 20-point and three 30-point contests.
He is currently the only player in the nation with 660+ points, 145+ assists, 80+ 3-pointers, 80+ rebounds and 45+ steals.
In 33 games, Stirtz has scored 661 points, which are the seventh-most in a single season in program history. He is two points from passing Andre Woolridge for sixth place and 15 points from moving past Roy Marble into the top five.
Stirtz is joined on the NABC Central District first team by Nate Ament (Tennessee), Robbie Avila (Saint Louis), Ja’Kobi Gillespie (Tennessee), Joshua Jefferson (Iowa State), Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State), Milan Momcilovic (Iowa State), Darryn Peterson (Kansas), Pryce Sandfort (Nebraska) and Tyler Tanner (Vanderbilt).
The ninth-seeded Hawkeyes will face eighth-seeded Clemson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 5:50 p.m. (CT) in Tampa, Florida. The game will be televised on TNT.
