Kooper Schulte Named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

Iowa senior Kooper Schulte has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - University of Iowa senior Kooper Schulte has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, it was announced Wednesday by the College Baseball Foundation. The honor is given to the top shortstop in collegiate baseball.

Schulte has started all 11 games at shortstop this season and is batting .377. He recorded a career-high five hits in six at-bats in the home opener against Wisconsin-Platteville.

The New London, Iowa, native has four multi-hit games this year, totaling six doubles, one triple, and 12 RBIs. Defensively, he has 10 putouts and 29 assists across 40 total chances.

The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Former Hawkeye Nick Roscetti was a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award in 2016,  Michael Seegers was on the watch list in 2023 and Gable Mitchell was on the watch list a season ago.

The Hawkeyes face Loras today at 4:02 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field before hosting Lindenwood this weekend for their first home series of the season.
