Hawkeyes Rout Bradley, 20–1

The Iowa baseball team defeated Bradley, 20-1, on Tuesday night at Duane Banks Field.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Iowa baseball team defeated Bradley, 20-1, on Tuesday night at Duane Banks Field.

“I was really proud of how they played tonight. Coming off a long road trip, we didn’t get back until after six o’clock yesterday, they went to class and then had to sit through a rain delay, and I thought they handled it really well,” said head coach Rick Heller.  “They came out with great energy. Terhaar gave us a good start, and Kooper Schulte started the game off with a home run for the second game in a row. Offensively, we just broke out.”

The Hawkeyes got on the board immediately, as senior Kooper Schulte led off the game with a home run. Iowa followed with RBI hits from redshirt freshman Carter Geffre and redshirt junior Kellen Strohmeyer, while redshirt freshman Kyle Alivo added an RBI double to cap a five-run first inning.

Iowa added on in the second when senior Caleb Wulf delivered a two-run double to extend the lead.

The Hawkeyes broke the game open in the fourth. Geffre and Strohmeyer each recorded RBI doubles, and senior Joey Nerat hit a two-run home run to push the lead into double digits.

Iowa continued its momentum in the fifth, getting RBI singles from redshirt sophomore Max Burt and redshirt freshman Brett White.

In the sixth, the Hawkeyes added five more runs, highlighted by a two-run home run from redshirt sophomore Jaixen Frost and a two-run double from White.

“It was everything you would want it to be and turned out to be a really nice night, said Heller. “Hopefully we can ride this into the weekend.”

On the mound, freshman Nick Terhaar earned the win as Iowa used seven pitchers in the victory. The Hawkeyes limited Bradley throughout, allowing just one late run.
