GLENDALE, Calif. – The University of Iowa women’s golf team completed round one of play at the Big Ten Championships at Oakmont Country Club. The Hawkeyes sit tied 10th place after shooting 15-over par (295) in the opening round. Junior Ximena Benites paced the Hawkeyes shooting two-under par and currently sits tied for third place. Second round action tees off at 10:30 a.m. (CT) Saturday.
Benites carded a 68 (-2) in the opening round as she recorded three birdies while carding just one bogey in the opening round. Benites currently sits one stroke back from second place, and three strokes back from Anna Ritter of Illinois, who leads the field at five-under par.
Junior Maura Peters and senior Riley Lewis currently sit in a tie for 30th place after shooting 3-over par. Peters recorded two birdies while Lewis adding one.
Freshman Sunny Wang shot 11-over par while sophomore Lily Huether finished 12-over par on Friday.
USC leads the field at 3-under par followed by Illinois and Ohio State at two-over par.
