IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former University of Iowa right-handed pitcher Duncan Davitt has been called up to the Chicago White Sox. Davitt was named to the White Sox’s 26-man roster for Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
“It’s exciting to see that Duncan was called up to the big leagues,” said Iowa head coach Rick Heller. “As well as he has been pitching the last couple of years, it was just a matter a time. He has worked hard and has earned it.”
The Indianola, Iowa, native has posted a 19-24 record and a 4.39 ERA in the minors. He has thrown 381 innings, striking out 400 and allowing a 1.20 WHIP.
Davitt played for the Hawkeyes from 2018-2022, where he posted an 11-5 record with a 4.74 ERA. He struck out 171 batters in 144 1/3 innings of work.
He was selected in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays before being traded to the White Sox last July.
Davitt is the sixth player in Heller’s Iowa tenure to get the call to the Majors, joining Nick Allgeyer, Mason McCoy, Tyler Cropley, Adam Mazur and Jack Dreyer. He is the 11th player to reach MLB who played under Heller, joining Sean Manaea, Dakota Bacus, Colin Rea, Jake Petricka and Ryan Strausborger -- all of whom played for Heller at Indiana State.
The White Sox face the Royals at 6:40 p.m. (CT) in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium.
