HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa State struck first in the top of the third inning with consecutive home runs to take an early 4-0 lead.
In the Hawkeyes’ half of the third, Brianna Johnson walked and Devin Simon followed with a single to left field. Tory Bennett then hit her eighth home run of the season to deep left, cutting the deficit to one.
The Cyclones added a run in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-3.
Iowa responded in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Nailyn Marshall drew a leadoff walk, and Mariah Myers hit her fifth home run of the season to bring in two runs.
Iowa State regained the lead in the fifth, plating two runs to go ahead 7-5.
In the bottom half of the inning, Simon singled and advanced into scoring position on a Bennett sacrifice bunt. Kiara Sipe followed with a single to right field, allowing Simon to score.
The Hawkeyes tied the game, 7-7, in the sixth. Myers doubled, and Johnson drove her in with an RBI single.
The Cyclones secured the win in the seventh with a two-run home run.

First pitch against Georgia Tech is set for Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Hawkeyes will then face South Dakota State on Saturday at 4 p.m. before concluding the weekend Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
