Consensus first-team All-American in 1981; two-time first-team All-Big Ten in 1980, 81; led Big Ten Conference and set Iowa’s season record in tackles for loss yardage with 153 yards on 20 tackles in 1980; co-captain of Iowa’s Big Ten Championship Team in 1981 and 1982 Rose Bowl Team; played with New England Patriots for 12 seasons as linebacker from 1982-1993, in Super Bowl xx in 1985, and finished as all-time leader in sacks with 100; National Football League’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1985; five consecutive Pro-Bowl selections from 1984-88; three-time AFC Linebacker of the Year in 1985, 86, 87;  NFL All-Decade Team (1980-89); two time All-AFC selection in 1986, 87; named to Iowa’s All-Century first Team as defensive end in 1989 and Patriots Hall of Fame in 1999.
