Developed and implemented butterfly stroke into collegiate and international swimming; coached two Olympians, fourteen individual NCAA champions, seventy-five swimmers and divers to all-American honors, eighteen NCAA top ten team finishes, and Big Ten team championship in 1936; president of American College Swimming Association in 1938; author of number one instructional swimming book; and member of International Swimming Hall of Fame.
