Two-time consensus first-team All-American linebacker and Academic All-American in 1984, '85; second-team All-American in 1983; freshman first-team All-American in 1982; three-time first-team All-Big Ten linebacker and Academic All-Big Ten in 1983, '84, '85; runner-up Butkus Linebacker of the Year Award in 1985; Lombardi Award finalist in 1985; Iowa all-time leading tackler with 492 stops, 308 solos and 184 assists and led team in tackles all four years; co-captain in 1985; and named to Iowa’s All-Century Team-Defense (Linebacker) in 1989.
