Iowa has had 34 players appear in NBA / ABA games, including seven former Hawkeyes who have all won NBA championships. The Iowa basketball program has been well represented in the NBA championships over the years. In fact, former Hawkeyes have won 13 world championships while in the NBA. That list includes B.J. Armstrong, Matt Bullard, Fred Brown, Bob Hansen, John Johnson, Ronnie Lester, and Don Nelson.
Continuing the tradition, Iowa has had three players selected in the NBA Draft since 2022, while a handful of others have signed professional contracts to play overseas. Iowa had back-to-back first round draft picks in 2022 and 2023.
