Hawkeyes in Eighth After First Day

MANHATTAN, KS – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 36-hole total of 641 to finish the first day of the 12-team Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in eighth place. The host school Kansas State fired a 614 to finish the day in the first.

Leading the way for the Hawkeyes, tied for ninth place, was junior Liz Bennett. Bennett fired a two-round total of 155. Senior Laura Holmes shot a 156, which was good enough to place her tied for 12th. Junior Shannon Fleming is tied for 23rd with a score of 159. Freshman Virginie Bonfils carded a 171, which places her tied for 53rd. Senior Jennifer Reints ended the day with a score of 176, which places her tied for 58th.

Indiana State’s Samantha Richdale leads the field after day one with a 36-hole total of 146. One shot behind in second place is Kansas State’s Karen Quintelier.
