Mintz, Racette Advance to Main Singles

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Freshmen Hillary Mintz and Meg Racette advanced to the main singles draw after wins in today’s competition. Mintz defeated Michigan’s Debra Streifler, 6-2, 6-0. She will play Cristelle Grier of Northwestern tomorrow. Racette downed Pavlina Akritas of Illinois, 6-0, 6-2. Tomorrow she will face Illinois State’s Katri Miller.

In doubles competition, the team of Racette and Mintz defeated Ohio State’s Lindsay Williams and Sonia Ruzimovsky, 8-6, but fell to the Wisconsin duo of Lindsay Martin and Katie McGaffigan, 8-2.

The Hawkeyes will continue play at the ITA Midwest Regionals tomorrow.
