The 12th-ranked Iowa GymHawks placed second in the Cancun Invitational, while #15 Washington took first. The Hawks had a team total of 195.350 to the Huskers’ 196.450. Oklahoma came in third (195.150) and Texas Woman’s finished fourth (189.175).
Senior Alexis Maday won three individual titles and the all-around. Maday won vault with a 9.900, tied for first on beam with a 9.875 and tied for first on floor with a 9.925. On bars, she placed second with a 9.950 to tie a career record. Maday also tied her career record all-around score, finishing with a 39.650.
On vault, Kortny Williamson placed second for the Hawkeyes with a 9.875. On beam, Williamson tied for sixth with a career-high 9.825. Liz Grajewski tied her career best on floor with a 9.875 to tie for fifth.
Other top finishes for Iowa include Stephanie Gran tying for fifth on the vault (9.825) and sixth on beam (9.825), and Nicole Wong finishing eighth on bars (9.850). Iowa will open the home season January 17 against Iowa State.
