Jamie Cavey pumped in 24, Kristi Faulkner 22, and Jennie Lillis 12 to lead Iowa to an easy 76-61 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats Thursday night.
It was a homecoming of sorts for Faulkner, who celebrated her 23rd birthday before moer than a friends and family in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Faulkner, a native of nearby Glen Ellyn, Ill., shot a blistering eight-for-12 for the game after a rather slow start.
“I’m excited for Kristi Faulkner,” said Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder, who watched her team post its fourth straight Big Ten victory, a win that pushed the Hawkeyes’ league record to 5-2 and its overall mark to 11-7.
“It was really nice to see her bounce back from a slow start to finish so strong. It’s pretty neat when you think about it. She comes home and wins big on her birthday.”
Iowa led from start to finish, building its lead to 25 three different times during the second half. Cavey hit on 11 of 15 field goal attenpts and also grabbed eight rebounds. Iowa committed just 14 turnovers against 21 assists and made 13 of 15 free throw attempts.
The Hawkeyes return to action Sunday at Michigan State. That game pits two teams still eying the league crown. Both have two losses in league play.
