Hawkeyes Defeat No. 41 Kansas State

The Iowa women’s tennis team recorded its second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent Sunday afternoon with a decisive 6-1 victory over 41st-ranked Kansas State at the Recreation Building.

The Hawkeyes got off to a fast start winning all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. In the No. 1 match, freshman Meg Racette and freshman Hillary Mintz posted an 8-0 victory over Maria Rosengberg and Paulina Castillejos. In the No. 2 match, senior Deni Alexandrova and freshman Anastasia Zhukova recorded an 8-3 win over Jessica Simosa and Judith Diaz. In the No. 3 match, sophomore Chelsea Glynn and senior Jennifer Hodgman recorded an 8-3 win over Hayley McIver and Aveen Alkhatib.

Iowa continued to dominate in singles competition winning all five matches played. Racette posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rosenberg in the No. 1 match. In the No. 2 match, Mintz recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Simosa. Glynn posted a 6-2, 4-6, (10-6) win over Castillejos in the No. 3 match. In the No. 4 match, Zhukova notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over McIver. In the No. 5 match, Alexandrova recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Diaz. Alkhatib claimed Kansas State’s victory in the No. 6 match due to a default by Hodgman.

Iowa (5-0, 0-0) will travel to Nashville, TN, Saturday to face Clemson on the campus of Vanderbilt. Competition is scheduled for 10 a.m. (CT).
