Arlington, TX – The University of Iowa women’s track and field team added another athlete to its list of NCAA regional qualifiers at the Texas-Arlington Relays on Saturday. Senior Shellene Williams qualified in the 200 meters while freshman Peaches Roach qualified for the second consecutive week in the high jump.
Williams placed second in the 200 meters with a collegiate-best and qualifying time of 23.61 and nearly broke the school record of 23.59. Roach finished runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 5-8 (1.73 meters) but has a better qualifying mark of 5-10 1/4 (1.78 meters). Roach also finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.80, missing the qualifying standard by .02 seconds.
Senior Michelle Lahann and freshman Nikki Chapple finished first and second respectively in the 1,500 meters while junior Aisha Hume brought home a second place finish in the 800 meters. On the day, the Hawkeyes had 10 top five finishes and had nine athletes set collegiate-best times.
The Hawkeyes will have a week to rest until their next competition which is the KT Woodman Classic on Saturday, April 10th in Wichita, KS. Iowa will also be sending some competitors to the John McDonnell Invitational on April 10th in Fayetteville, AR.
