The Iowa women’s tennis team lost to 28th-ranked Illinois, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes drop to 2-1 in the Big Ten.
Freshman Hillary Mintz defeated Tiffany Eklov, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot to gain a point for Iowa. At the No. 1 spot, Meg Racette lost to 34th-ranked Jennifer McGaffigan, 7-6, 6-2. Chelsea Glynn lost a hard-fought match, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, to Cynthya Goulet. Senior Deni Alexandrova drove the No. 5 match into a third set, but lost, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles, the duo of Racette and Mintz came close to knocking off ninth-ranked Jennifer McGaffigan and Cynthya Goulet, but lost 9-8.
The Hawkeyes will compete next when they host the Michigan Wolverines April 3.
