The University of Iowa softball team was blanked by Drake Wednesday, 3-0, in Des Moines.

The Hawkeyes struggled at the plate, picking up only two hits off the Bulldog pitching staff. Drake picked up five hits.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, when Emily Hajduk to reach on an error, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Iowa’s second error of the inning.

Drake stretched its lead to 3-0 in the third with an RBI single by Katie Shimon and a bases loaded hit batsman.

The Drake pitching staff kept the Hawkeye bats in check the rest of the way, picking up the win. Emily Gerlick and Jenna Spratt picked up the two hits for Iowa.

With the loss, Iowa falls to 18-15, while Drake raises its record to 15-12.

The Hawkeyes will open the Big Ten season Friday evening with a game against Northwestern. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
