Ames, IA – The University of Iowa men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier in Ames, IA on Saturday. The women also sent competitors to South Bend, IN to compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational. The women’s team added two more events to their list of qualifiers for the NCAA Championships while the men’s team had one athlete qualify in the shot put.

The women’s team qualified freshman Nikki Chapple and senior Michelle Lahann at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Chapple qualified in the 5,000 meters, finishing first with a time of 16:27.04. She is now qualified in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Senior Michelle Lahann qualified in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.83. Lahann is now qualified in the 800 meters, the mile and the distance medley relay.

Senior Ken Kemeny provisionally qualified yet again for the men’s team with a throw of 59-6 ? (18.15m). His season best and top qualifying throw is 60-0 ? (18.30m).

The Hawkeye women’s team has now qualified eight events for nationals while the men’s team has qualified one. Final NCAA qualifiers will be announced Monday night and those competitors will travel to Fayetteville, AR for the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships on March 12-13.
