BLOOMINGTON, IN – The University of Iowa softball team defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, IN. The Hawkeyes upped their overall record to 25-15 and remained undefeated in the Big Ten Conference at 6-0. Indiana fell to 23-21, 0-4 in the Big Ten.

The game was a classic Big Ten pitching battle, with the two teams combining for only seven hits. Ali Arnold and Lisa Birocci combined for the shutout, while Hoosier starter Mariangee Bogado allowed just three Hawkeye hits.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth, when sophomore Natalie Johnson reached on a single. Johnson then came around to score the game’s only run on an RBI base hit off the bat of senior Amanda Hentges.

Birocci picked up the win in relief for Iowa, allowing only one hit in three innings. The junior all-American struck out seven.

The Hawkeyes will travel to West Lafayette, IN, tonight and play the Purdue Boilermakers in an Easter Day doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon.
