Hawks Compete in Day Two of Drake Relays

Des Moines, IA – The University of Iowa women’s track and field team had three athletes compete in the second day of competition at the 95th annual Drake Relays. Junior Tiff Pedersen and freshman Angie Hensel competed in the heptathlon while senior Georgia Millward ran in the 10,000 meter invitational division.

Pedersen finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4,864 points. She was in first place going into the final day of competition in the heptathlon but was edged out by Ryanne Dupree of Texas-San Antonio, who tallied 5,087 points for first place. Pedersen finished fourth in the high jump portion, fifth in the shot put, third in long jump and seventh in the javelin.

“I’m satisfied with how I did today,” said Pedersen. “This gives me a look at the future and the Big Ten’s that are coming ahead. Hensel finished 15th with 4,073 points.

Millward placed 17th in the 10,000 meter invitational with a collegiate-best time of 37:22.04. Mirriam Kaumba of Oklahoma Baptist won the event in 35:29.82.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will compete in Friday’s events at Drake Stadium. Events are scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
