Box Score

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa softball team thrashed William Penn, 10-0 in five innings, Tuesday night at Pearl Field. The Hawkeyes honored their seniors Sarah Thomson, Laura Chipman and Amanda Hentges in their last home game.

Iowa ups its record to 38-19, while William Penn falls to 35-20.

Thomson celebrated her senior day in style, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a towering home run over the left field fence.

Iowa exploded for five two-out runs in the bottom of the third, led by Thomson’s three-run homer.

The Hawkeyes picked up where they left off in the fourth, pounding out six hits to pick up another five runs and stretch their lead to 10-0. After Chipman reached on a single, Mindy Heidgerken and Natalie Johnson hit back-to-back doubles to start the scoring. Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly by Emily Gerlick, and Iowa got RBIs from Thomson and Elisha Huse to round out the scoring.

In the circle, Lisa Birocci and Ali Arnold combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter. Birocci picked up the win and struck out eight of the 13 batters she faced.

Iowa will wind up the Big Ten season this weekend with a pair of games at Illinois Saturday and Sunday. Both games will start at noon.
