SOUTH BEND, IN – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 54-hole total of 944 to finish fifth in its season opening tournament at the Notre Dame Invitational. After shooting a disappointing third-round score of 323, Iowa slipped from fourth place to fifth in Sunday’s final round. The tournament was held on the par-72 Warren Golf Course. Senior Liz Bennett was Iowa’s top performer this weekend finishing tied for 20th with a 54-hole score of 233 (76-78-79). Sophomore Amy Riepma tied for 26th with a three-round score of 236 (75-76-85). Riepma fired an 18-hole career-low 75 in the second round. Freshman Jill Marcum tied for 29th with a scored of 237 (82-78-77). Iowa State (902) won the team title by five strokes over Washington State (907), while Cyclone Louise Kenney was the medalist shooting an even-par 216 for the tournament. Iowa returns to action next weekend at the Lady Northern Invitational in Ann Arbor, MI.
