IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed against Wisconsin this evening at the Fieldhouse Pool. Both teams are trailing the Badgers after the first day of competition. The women are trailing 135-69, while the men are behind 123-80.
Leading the way for the women was junior Lisette Planken. The junior diver recorded two school record performances tonight. She scored a 328.35 in the three-meter event, and followed that by a 326.55 performance in the one-meter event. Junior Andrea Hemphill took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.40.
For the men, the Hawkeyes were led by sophomore Steven Medgalia. Medgalia took first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.45 and came away with third in the 200 individual medley. The Hawkeyes 200 medley relay team finished first in the opening event of the night. The team consisted of junior Eric Hahn, senior Calvin Shelangoski, sophomore Mariusz Muras and junior Konrad Kazmierczak.
Competition will conclude tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Fieldhouse Pool. Admission to the event is free.
