The University of Iowa women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams each finished competition at the Minnesota Invitational in fourth place. The Hawkeye women scored 610 points over the three-day invite while the Hawkeye men put up 421.5 points.
Leading the way for the women was senior Jennifer Skolaski, who took first in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.71. Junior Kelly Werner finished right behind Skolaski with a time of 2:03.39 for second. Also performing well for the Hawkeyes were juniors Katie Martin and Andrea Hemphill, and senior Kristen Eide. Hemphill was the second-place finisher in the 200 fly with a Hawkeye season-best time of 2:06.17. Martin took third in the 100 free (52.23) while Eide finished fourth in the 200 breast (2:24.51).
The Hawkeye women also had a strong showing in the 400 free relay, as all three Iowa teams finished in the top seven. Iowa A, comprised of Skolaski, Martin, Karen Kelly and Abby VanMaaren, took third with a time of 3:28.89, while Werner, Robin Samples, Molly Gable and Caitlin Girdley of Iowa C finished sixth (3:35.84). Iowa B, consisting of Katelyn Eustis, Katie Haeger, Erica Noah, and Mindy Schulte, came in seventh with a time of 3:35.91.
The Hawkeye men were led by freshman Dragos Agache and seniors Elliot Ptasnik and Calvin Shelangoski, who each finished in the top five in the 200 breast. Agache notched a second-place finish with a time of 2:02.89 while Ptasnik and Shelangoski took fourth and fifth, respectively. Junior Andrei Ciurca finished fifth in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.32, while junior Trevor Haley swam to a sixth-place finish in the 200 fly (1:53.73).

The Hawkeye men return to action on Saturday, December 4th as they head to Bloomington, Indiana to compete against Indiana, Southern Illinois and Purdue. The Hawkeye women will host Iowa State December 4th in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series meet.
