The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team fell to Minnesota 171-129 this afternoon at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN. Despite winning seven events and setting two meet records, the Hawkeyes fell to 0-2 in Big Ten competition.

Leading the way for the Hawkeyes was junior Kelly Werner. Werner set meet records in both the 100 back (56.87) and 200 back (2:01.63), taking first in both events. Her time of 2:01.63 in the 200 back meets the NCAA qualifying B standard. Werner also took first in the 100 fly (57.29) and teamed up with Jennifer Skolaski, Katie Haeger and Abby VanMaaren to take second in the 200 medley relay (1:46.23).

Skolaski placed first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:23.22 and swam the final leg of the 400 free relay team, comprised also of Katie Martin, VanMaaren and Karen Kelly, which took first in a time of 3:27.37. Martin also took second in the 100 free with a time of 52.13. Other second-place finishers for the Hawkeyes were junior Erica Noah in the 1000 free (10:26.81), senior Kristen Eide in the 200 fly (2:07.44) and 200 breast (2:23.00), and senior Katelyn Eustis in the 400 IM (4:31.93).

Diver’s Lisette Planken and Nancilea Underwood swept the competition in both the one and three meter diving events. Underwood took first in the one meter with a score of 304.35, while Planken came in second (292.05). In the three meter event, Planken finished first with a score of 330.00 while Underwood took second with a score of 320.10.

Iowa will host Truman State Friday, November 12th, in a dual meet at the Fieldhouse Pool. Competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
