IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa men’s swimming team trails Missouri and Penn State after the first day of competition. The Hawkeyes trail the Tigers 100-77, and the Nittany Lions 108-69. Penn State leads Missouri 94-89.
The Hawkeyes had two victorious swimmers in the first day of competition. Trevor Haley was victorious in the 400 IM with a time of 4:04.26. Calvin Shelangoski swam to first-place in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.59, teammate Dragos Agache was shortly behind in second (56.64). Alex Boyce and Eric Hahn also added second-place individual finishes for Iowa. A pair of Hawkeye relay teams finished second as well. The 200 medley realy team of Andrei Ciurca, Dragos Agache, Alex Boyce and Bryan Rowland timed a 1:33.49 for their second-place finish, while the 200 freestyle squad of Alex Boyce, Cameron Dye, Cade Ashby and Bryan Rowland came in with a time of 1:25.20.
The Hawkeyes will finish competition tomorrow morning at the UI Fieldhouse Pool at 9 a.m. Admission to the event is free.
