GymHawks Fall to Iowa State, Defeat Hamline and Gustavus Adolphus

Jan. 29, 2005

AMES, IA – The Iowa GymHawks lost to Iowa State, but defeated Gustavus Adolphus and Hamline Friday night. The GymHawks had a season-high team total of 192.400.

On bars, senior Annie Rue scored a 9.8 to finish fourth. Kortny Williamson finished fourth on beam with a score of 9.65. Williamson was also the top GymHawk on vault, placing fifth (9.7). Williamson tied for fifth on floor with Ally Zipse, both tallying a 9.75. Liz Grajewski finished fifth in the all-around for the GymHawks (38.525).

The loss to the Cyclones trimmed Iowa’s lead in the new Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series by two points to 9-6 as a result of Iowa State capturing two points for the head-to-head win. Iowa will have a chance to clinch this year’s Cy-Hawk Series title with a victory when the two women’s gymnastics teams meet on Feb. 19 in Iowa City. That is the next to last event in the 2004-05 Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series.

Iowa will compete next Saturday, February 5 when they travel to Illinois.
