Iowa Splits With Northwestern and Ohio State

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s swimming & diving team split with Big Ten foes Northwestern and Ohio State this afternoon at the UI Fieldhouse Pool. The Hawkeyes defeated the Buckeyes 161.5-137.5 and fell to the Wildcats 176.5-122.5. Northwestern defeated Ohio State 168-131. Iowa moves to 5-4 (1-4 Big Ten), while Northwestern improves to 8-4 (5-2 Big Ten) and Ohio State is now 6-6 (1-5 Big Ten).

Ten Hawkeye seniors were honored before the game in their final home competition. Seniors Lisette Planken and Jennifer Skoalski both were victorious in their home finale. Skolaski led the Hawkeyes winning all three of her individual events. She showed her versatility by winning not only the 100 and 200 backstroke events but also the 200 individual medley. Skoalski was also a member of the 200 medley relay team that finished second. She was accompanied by Katie Haeger, Kelly Werner and Abby VanMaaren. VanMaaren and Werner are also seniors. Planken was victorious in the one-meter diving competition. She scored a 309.7 and also placed second in the three-meter event. Junior Katie Martin also added three top-five finishes in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle. Martin placed second in both the 50 and 100 events.

The Hawkeyes return to action February 16-19 at Bloomington, IN to compete in the Big Ten Championships.
