EVANSTON, IL –
The 54th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team fell to second-ranked Northwestern, 7-0, Saturday. The Hawkeyes drop to 9-7 overall, 3-2 in the Big Ten.
At No. 1 doubles, Meg Racette and Milica Veselinovic played together for the first time this season, falling to top-ranked Audra Cohren and Cristelle Grier, 8-1. Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler took on 36th-ranked Alexis Prousis and Kristi Roemer, dropping 8-5. At the No. 3 spot, Hillary Mintz and Jacqueline Lee lost to Valerie Vladea and Feriel Esseghir, 8-5.
In singles, Iowa fared no better, with three Hawkeyes going up against ranked players. Racette was downed by third-ranked Cohen, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 2 position, Mintz fell to 16th-ranked Grier, 6-3, 6-3. Zhukova dropped to 66th-ranked Prousis, 6-0, 7-5. At the No. 4 spot, Milica Veselinovic had a tough battle in the second set, finally falling, 6-0, 7-6 (10).
The Hawkeyes will compete tomorrow at Wisconsin beginning at 11 a.m.
