SOLON,IA- The University of Iowa Rowing team began competition against the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 7:00 A.M. this morning. Minnesota went on to sweep all five races against Iowa, including a defeat of Iowa’s #15 ranked Varsity Eight boat.
The 15th ranked V8+ boat consisted of Michelle Trannel, Lydia McGee, Jessica Mcbride, Marije Van Amersfoort, Emily Vail, Carolyn O’Meara, Emily Wagstrom, and Nikki Stob. They were involved in the closest race of the day losing by a little more than a second. Other boats that competed were N4+, N8+, V4+, and 2V8+.
“I knew Minnesota had a strong team but I was hoping we could pull it off,” Head Coach Mandi Kowal said. “It was disappointing that we couldn’t get into a groove and win some races.” Iowa will travel to Ann Arbor, MI for their next competition. This event will be hosted by Michigan and be held on April 16.
