Reavis Crowned NCAA Vault Champion

WEST POINT, NY – Hawkeye junior Michael Reavis (Tallahassee, FL) became Iowa’s 12th NCAA champion with his dominating performance on vault at the Individual Event Championships Saturday evening at the Holleder Center in West Point, NY.

With a score of 9.55 on vault, Reavis captured the title, becoming Iowa’s second NCAA champion on vault. Jay Thornton was crowned NCAA vault champion in 1996. Reavis is a three-time all-American, earning the honors on horizontal bar in 2003 and on vault in 2004.

Iowa junior Michael McNamara (Orem, UT) took second place on floor exercise for the Hawkeyes and was defeated only by reigning NCAA floor champion Graham Ackerman of California. He posted a score of 9.587 and earned his first all-American honor as a Hawkeye. He became Iowa’s ninth all-American on floor exercise.

Iowa senior Linas Gaveika (Vilnius, Lithuania) took sixth on horizontal bar for the Hawkeyes, posting a score of 9.375. For his efforts he was named an all-American on the event. This is his third all-American honor on horizontal bar and his fourth as a Hawkeye. He also recorded a ninth-place finish on pommel horse (8.812).
