Two Hawkeyes Qualify For USATF Nationals

June 21, 2005

CARSON CITY, CA – Two Hawkeyes have qualified for the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday in Carson, CA. Junior Adam Hamilton qualified in the open men’s hammer throw, while redshirt freshman Mark Schaapveld qualified in the junior men’s hammer throw. All events will be held at The Home Depot Center.

Hamilton, who redshirted the 2005 outdoor season, was a hammer throw all-American in 2004, placing 10th at the NCAA Championships. His collegiate-best throw of 208-11 ranks third on Iowa’s all-time best performers list. The Milford, NH, native also provisionally qualified for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight throw with a collegiate-best throw of 66-4 1/4, which also ranks third in school history. Schaapveld, from Iowa City, redshirted the 2005 season. He won three conference titles for Iowa City West High School.

Hamilton is scheduled to throw Friday at 1 p.m., and Schaapveld is scheduled to throw Saturday at 1 p.m.
