IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team played a hard fought match that ended in a 1-1 draw Friday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Katelyn Quinn recorded Iowa’s lone goal in the 21st minute to earn the draw.
Oklahoma State started the match off quickly but sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Boldt and the Hawkeye defense kept the Cowgirls in check. Oklahoma State nearly scored a goal in the 11th minute when Boldt knocked a ball away at the top of the 18-yard box, but it slid just behind her and rolled towards the goal line. Sophomore Claire Goldenberg made a diving kick save to push the ball of the line just inches before it found the back of the net.
Oklahoma State’s Yolanda Odenyo scored the first goal of the match off a free-kick near the top of the 18-yard box that just snuck by Boldt.
The Hawkeyes responded quickly in the 21st minute when sophomore Jamie Maltman made a nice run down the right side of the pitch and sent a pinpoint cross to Quinn, who volleyed the ball in the back of the net for the equalizer.

The Hawkeyes started off the second half with a few chances, but the match settled down until the 64th minute. Freshman Kelsey Shaw deflected a corner kick on goal but Cowgirl Jeanne Rankin made a diving kick save. The save bounced right back to the feet of Shaw, who blasted another shot but Rankin once again made a diving stop to keep the score level at 1-1.
Oklahoma State saw two good scoring opportunities late in the match, but Iowa’s defense held true. Boldt made a terrific diving save in the 73rd minute, clearing the ball off a shot from the right corner. Stellar defending by Megan Love and her fellow teammates inside the six-yard box in the 73rd minute sent the match to overtime.
Both overtime periods saw chances for both teams, but neither could find the back of the net.
The Hawkeyes recorded nine of their 12 shots after the first half to put pressure on Oklahoma State. Shaw recorded three shots, all on goal for Iowa. Quinn had two shots on goal while Katie Mulvahill had one. Boldt played the entire 110:00 minutes between the posts and registered a career-high nine saves.
“It was a great effort by everyone on our team,” coach Baker said. “We faced a very good Oklahoma State team with a lot of international talent. We played a physical 110 minutes of soccer and I was very pleased how we played under pressure. We stayed composed and kept ourselves in the match.”
Iowa will face Oklahoma at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The match will be the second-leg of the Big Ten/Big XII Challenge.
