IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team was defeated by Oklahoma Sunday, 2-0. The match was delayed three and a half hours due to inclement weather.

During a fast paced start, the Hawkeyes nearly netted the first goal of the match in the third minute. After a mishandle by the Sooner goalkeeper, sophomore Melisa Kaetterhenry collected the ball and blasted a shot that drilled the post and fell directly to the foot of an Oklahoma defender, who cleared the ball out of the box.

Oklahoma added its first goal in the 35th minute when Michelle Enos volleyed in a cross and the Sooners led, 1-0 at halftime.

Lauren MacIver added Oklahoma’s second goal in the 48th minute when she belted a bending shot from 20 yards out that just snuck over the hand of a diving Lindsey Boldt.

The Sooners gained a penalty kick in the 82nd minute after an Iowa foul inside the 18-yard box. Tenesha Duncan stepped up to the spot but was denied the goal by Boldt, who made a tremendous diving stop and knocked the penalty kick away.

Kaetterhenry led the Hawkeye offense, collecting two shots on goal. Sophomore Katie Mulvahill and freshman Jacqui Zuniga each had one. Boldt added eight saves.

The Hawkeyes return to action at the Iowa Soccer Complex Wednesday against Iowa State in the first event of the 2005 Hy-Vee CyHawk Series. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
