IOWA CITY – The Indiana University Varsity Club has announced that Iowa Head Softball Coach Gayle Blevins will be inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame. Blevins was head coach at Indiana from 1980-87.
Blevins started her illustrious coaching career with the Hoosiers and compiled a 301-146-2 record, including three Big Ten titles. Blevins also guided Indiana to three College World Series appearances. Her teams finished third in 1986, fifth in 1983 and second in 1980 when the series was a part of the AIAW.
“This is a very nice honor,” Blevins said. “When I got the call from Indiana, it instantly put me back in that time period. I still have many close contacts at Indiana and I can’t wait to see some of those people. Coaching at Indiana was a very special time for me and I have a lot of great memories. Some of the former athletes I coached are planning on attending the induction. I look forward to celebrating and sharing this honor with many friends.”
The ceremony will take place this Friday at 6 p.m. in Bloomington. Blevins, along with the rest of the 2005 Hall of Fame class, will be honored at halftime during Indiana’s football game vs. Ohio State Saturday.
