Iowa Women Finish First Day of Qualifying Play

EAST LANSING, MI – Iowa Hawkeyes Kayla Berry, Krissy Dowlin, and Merel Beelen competed in qualifying play today at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Region Championships.

Berry defeated Abby Showalter of Cleveland State, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of qualifying play and then fell to Anna Dzeva of Purdue, 6-4, 6-0.

Dowlin defeated Alejandra Cuadra of Illinois in the first round qualifying play, 6-3, 6-3, and fell to Stephanie Farrar of Ball State, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of play.

Beelen defeated Megan Brooks of Northern Illinois, 6-2, 6-0 in the first round of qualifying play and Erin Watkins of Marquette 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of qualifying play.

Competition will continue tomorrow in East Lansing at the Michigan State University Tennis Center.
