IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team was defeated by second-ranked Penn State Sunday, 8-0. The Hawkeyes held the potent Nittany Lion offense to just two goals in the first half, but a six-goal second half sealed the win for Penn State.
The Nittany Lions scored quickly, registering a goal in the 13th minute. Penn State’s second goal proved to be costly for the Hawkeyes in the 33rd minute. Penn State’s Aubrey Aden-Buie blasted a shot that drilled Iowa goalkeeper Erin MacIsaac, who gave up a rebound chance to Aden-Buie for the score. MacIsaac was unavailable for the rest of the match, forcing Head Coach Carla Baker to substitute freshman Amanda Bartlett between the posts. Bartlett, normally a defender, made her first collegiate appearance as a goalkeeper and made six saves.
