Hawkeyes Ink Former Olympian

Nov. 28, 2005

IOWA CITY – Iowa women’s track and cross country coach Layne Anderson announced the signing of Diane Nukuri from Butler Community College today.

Nukuri was a 2000 Olympian at 5000 meters for her native Burundi, but attended and graduated from a high school in Canada. She has won one Jr. College National Cross Country title, three indoor track titles, and two half marathon national titles. She is also the Jr. College National half marathon record holder with a time of 1:16.01. She will begin her Iowa career in the fall of 2006.

“Diane is another fantastic addition to our program and her incredible talent and versatility will help our cross country and track programs,” Coach Anderson said. “She is a remarkable story and will contribute in so many ways to our program. With the return of our core group and the addition of Diane, next year has the potential to be a breakout year for the program.”
