Hawkeyes Fall In Ames

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Curtis Stinson scored 20 points, Rahshon Clark added 17 and Jiri Hubalek finished with 13 points and eight rebounds to lead Iowa State to a 72-60 victory over No. 12 Iowa on Friday night, the Hawkeyes' second loss to an unranked in-state rival in four days.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Curtis Stinson scored 20 points, Rahshon Clark added 17 and Jiri Hubalek finished with 13 points and eight rebounds to lead Iowa State to a 72-60 victory over No. 12 Iowa on Friday night, the Hawkeyes’ second loss to an unranked in-state rival in four days.

Iowa (7-3), playing without injured point guard Jeff Horner, lost to Iowa State (6-2) for the third time in four games. The Cyclones forced the Hawkeyes into 20 turnovers, including five by Horner’s replacement, Tony Freeman.

On Tuesday, Iowa lost 67-63 in overtime at Northern Iowa.

The Cyclones forced four turnovers in the first 3:23 of the second half. Stinson and Rahshon Clark made 3-pointers to cap a 13-6 run early in the second half that gave Iowa State a 48-36 lead.

Will Blalock capped a 9-0 run that pushed Iowa State’s lead to 61-41 with 6:59 left. Iowa responded with an 8-0 run to pull within 61-49 with 4:47 left, but never got closer than 12 points.

The Cyclones closed out the first half on an 8-1 run for a 35-30 lead. Hubalek followed a 3-pointer by Blalock with a three-point play to put Iowa State ahead 33-30 with 1:22 left.

A dunk by Clark with 6:17 left in the opening half gave the Cyclones their first lead, 23-22, since the opening minutes.

The game marked the first appearance in Hilton Coliseum for Adam Haluska, who transferred from Iowa State to Iowa after his freshman year following the departure of former coach Larry Eustachy.

Booed every time he touched the ball, Haluska scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half. The Hawkeyes’ Erek Hansen matched his career high with 14 points, and Greg Brunner added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
