The annual meet-and-greet, take-a-look-at-the-inside-of-football-at-the-University of Iowa event known as FanFest will begin its three-day run in Iowa City Friday to the delight of another sellout crowd of 350 ardent friends and fans of Coach Kirk Ferentz’s nationally-ranked program.
This year’s event is similar to those in the past in that it provides participants a variety of opportunities to spend quality one-on-one time with members of Iowa’s coaching and support staffs, and Iowa’s talented student-athletes. This year’s schedule also includes a series of “Chalk Talks” ranging from Friday night’s “Player Panel” featuring Jason Manson, Miguel Merrick, Marcus Paschal, Kyle Schlicher and Drew Tate to Saturday afternoon’s session with defensive coordinator Norm Parker to Sunday morning’s keynote address by Ferentz.
Sprinkled in-between are complimentary breakfasts, lunches and dinners, tours of the Hawkeyes’ and visiting team lockerrooms and other spaces tucked away on field level of the new south grandstand at historic Kinnick Stadium, the Iowa-Michigan men’s basketball game or a “Game Watch” at the Sheraton, and the “Hawkeye Tailgate Party” Saturday night inside “The Bubble” with coaches and student-athletes.

Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase or win a wide variety of prizes and to have keepsakes and other items personalized and autographed by their favorite coach or Hawkeye.
“We’re optimistic that FanFest 2006 will build on our previous successes and be the best FanFest staged,” said Toby Trail, the UI’s assistant director of marketing.
“This year’s experience will give fans of the Hawkeyes a chance to venture behind the scenes to get an up close look at Iowa football – including the newly remodeled south end zone of Kinnick Stadium, the Iowa team locker room and the infamous pink locker room.”
