LAS VEGAS, NV –

Iowa senior Michael Reavis qualified for the USA National Senior Team Saturday night in Las Vegas at the Winter Cup Challenge. After two sessions on Thursday, Reavis had a combined score of 15.200 to become the U.S. National Champion on floor exercise.

At Saturday’s competition, Reavis was able to hold on to sixth place in the all-around and earn himself a place on the team. The top six scorers in the all-around and the top six men with the highest points earned a place on the National Team. This is the first time a Hawkeye made the Senior National Team since 1996 when Jay Thornton accomplished the feat.

“It has always been a goal of our program to have individuals on the U.S. National Team and it is fantastic for Michael and Iowa to end this nine and a half year drought,” Iowa’s Head Coach Tom Dunn said.

Based on the combined scores from Thursday and Saturday, Curtis Kleffman finished second in the nation on pommel horse. He also improved his all-around score by 1.6 points and moved into 18th place in the all-around.

Iowa will open their 2006 home schedule against Oklahoma this Friday in the UI Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
