SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of Iowa baseball team was defeated by the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 3-1, Friday at the Baseball Express Collegiate Classic in San Antonio, TX.
Senior Nate Price and sophomore Ben Geelan each had a pair of hits for the Hawkeyes. Sophomore Travis Sweet was 1-of-4 with the team’s only RBI.
Senior Luke O’Loughlin took the loss in relief for the Hawkeyes, while Noah Tritz got the win of UTSA. Southpaw Jeff Maitland allowed just four hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work as the starter.
The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single, but the Hawkeyes tied things up on Sweet’s single in the top of the eighth. Iowa attempted to take the lead in the inning, but Sweet was thrown out at home trying to score on a Brian Burmetser single.
Texas-San Antonio re-claimed the lead in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of singles and a Hawkeye error.
Iowa (5-2) will return to action tomorrow with a game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
