IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa Hawkeye baseball team dropped a 9-0 decision to the Minnesota Golden Gophers Friday night at Banks Field. Iowa (14-15, 4-5) were out-hit 10-4 on the night.
Control issues bogged down Hawkeye starting pitcher Luke O’Loughlin, who allowed eight hits, three walks and six hit batsmen in six innings of work.
Minnesota (16-13, 4-5) started off quick in the top of the first, getting three runs off two hits and a Hawkeye error. The Golden Gophers started up again in the second, taking advantage of three Hawkeye errors to put four more on th e scoreboard.
Minnesota got runs in the third and fourth innings to stretch their lead to 9-0.
Freshman Justin Toole took over pitching duties in the seventh, striking out four, giving up two hits and a walk.
The two teams will return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader tomorrow at 2 p.m.
