Alexander, Roach Advance To Semi-Finals

June 8, 2006

Sophomore Kineke Alexander and junior Peaches Roach are on the path to more all-American accolades after day one of the 2006 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. The two Hawkeyes have qualified for the semi-finals in their respective events, and more Hawkeyes will have their turn in the sun as the national meet continues through Saturday.

Alexander, this year’s 400-meter indoor champion, advanced to the semi-finals with a time of 52.35. The three-time all-American and school record holder entered the meet with the sixth-fastest time in the nation (51.83).

A two-time all-American in the high jump, Roach advanced to the semi-finals with a jump of 5-10.75. Roach qualified for the championships when she cleared 6-0.75, which also set a new school record.

Thursday’s events start at 10.00 a.m. (PST). All events will be held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the Cal State Sacramento campus. Live results can be found at www.ncaasports.com.
