Iowa Claims Three Singles Victories In Final Day Of Competition

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Iowa completed its final day of competition today at the Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Hawkeyes claimed three singles wins and two doubles wins today.

In singles action, Mili Veselinovic defeated Florentina Hanisch of Wichita State, 6-2, 6-3, to claim third place in her flight, while Hillary Mintz fell to Erin Katims of BU, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4, to place sixth in the flight. In the same flight, Jacqueline Lee was defeated in the championship match, 7-6 (4), 6-3, by Imke Reimers of Nebraska.

In other singles matches, Kayla Berry defeated Emily Anderson of Gonzaga, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6, for a fifth place finish. Freshman Kelcie Klockenga was defeated by Raquel Wagner of Mizzou, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 in the championship match of flight three, and Jennifer Barnes defeated Gabbi Hernandez of BU, 6-3, 2-6, 10-5, to finish third in her flight.

In doubles action, Berry/Klockenga were defeated by Josbena/Pratzel of Mizzou, 8-3 in the championship match, while Lee/Mintz were successful against Koprivica/Seaton of Minnesota, 9-8 (5). Barnes/Veselinovic defeated Haycraft/Rudico of Air Force, 8-0.

Iowa will continue competition September 30th at the ITA Riviera Championships in California.
